You have all successfully completed a bibliography...but I've yet to see your rough drafts. This week I would like to focus on creating rough drafts of your brochures. I'm including several really cool links to help you continue your research. Mr. Long found these...and we're borrowing them! Thanks Mr. Long!!

I'm looking forward to a busy week...we'll wrap-up our water quality testing, comparing the results from Paulina Creek with Buck Creek, and we'll collect more macroinvertebrates at Buck Creek on Tuesday. Plan to explore the world of dichotomous keys with The Riverpeople on Thursday!

Oh the blog...
Well hello and welcome! I am going to work very hard to stay on top of the blog this year...I promise! Currently, little Oliver is asleep across my lap...so I can actually get some work accomplished...we'll see how long this holds up!
A brief sketch of next week:
Monday: expect a few more do's and don'ts...we need to talk about computers and Cardinal Three
Tuesday: we are off to Buck Creek for the first time. PLEASE...please...remember to wear appropriate shoes and bring a coat if the weather looks even slightly menacing. It is a one mile hike down to the creek (two miles round-trip)...and there is little to no shelter if it's raining. We are scheduled to leave immediately after lunch.
If you haven't done so already...grab that permission slip out of your backpack and have mom, dad, grandma, etc. sign it...and then put it BACK in your backpack!!
Wednesday: nothing of note yet
Thursday: the RiverPeople return!
We will begin our study of various religions next week...plan to be busy writing and reading as well...we will polish those "I am from..." poems and begin a new writing selection - I'm thinking of "firsts".
Enjoy your weekend!!

Cardinal Three and Writing Contests
As a part of Cardinal Three, all 8th graders are expected to publish one piece of writing and all 7th graders are required to attempt publication. One of the most exciting ways to work towards this goal is entering a writing contest. You could complete your Cardinal Three requirement AND win something!!
Once again, this year we will be entering the Letters About Literature writing contest. 7th graders, this fulfills your Cardinal Three requirement (your welcome!). The contest begins this month so we will be looking at the winning letters from the last few years and begin the process of perfecting our own. I will also be posting links to a variety of other writing contests. I want to encourage all of you to enter as many contests as you feel that you can handle. Know that I am willing and happy to spend as much time as is necessary with each and everyone of you, brainstorming, discussing, proof-reading, and editing your writing selections.
*Heads up to you 8th graders - Some of these contests could double as both a service project and a publication.
